Diary Entry from the Desk of Bishop Marcia Karen Smith Saturday, February 9, 2008; 11:59 a.m. Bishop Marcia Karen Smith’s experiences since earning my Masters of Divinity Degree, Saturday, May 13, 2006 stems from Habakkuk 3:2 King James Version, which states write the vision and make it plain. Wednesday, May 3, 2006 This day began a great day in the life of The Right Reverend Marcia Karen Smith. I went to my school, Howard University School of Divinity, (HUSD) to use the computer to print some documents to include, “Job Opportunity,” announcement for distribution. As I entered HUSD library, I had a determined mission, and in my opinion a divine, intense purpose to fulfill. It was not normal for me not to speak to everyone that I would have met alone the way, but my purpose was so intense that I did not even speak to anyone as I entered the library. My experience, well, it was somewhat eerie, but at the same time it was unusually quite in the library that particular day. As I sat at the computer I began to search for my computer file to access the documents that I needed to print. After spending about an hour at the computer terminal, I felt in my spirit that my mission was completed. I then shut down the system, backed my bag, and headed for the door. It was at that moment that I met a gentleman who would impact my life for the next two years. The gentleman was standing at the librarians desk, the front desk was located at the library entry, as I recall, this gentleman was like an angelic being, there appear to be a white cloud that surrounded him. (The vision or the moment is so clear to me even now while I am writing this recollection). I spoke to him, and said hello, this was the first time that I spoke to someone during the course of that day. I also handed him one of my flyers labeled, “Job Opportunity,” as I continued to head toward the door. While leaving the library, I remembered that I failed to print another flyer which I also needed for distribution. Therefore, I returned to the library hoping that the terminal would still be available for me to use. It was still available… as I sat down once again, repositioned myself to print the second set of flyers… the gentleman came to my desk and asked me, “this flyer, what does it mean?” I explained it as a job opportunity flyer, which my organization will hire someone to work as a self employment individual, with a position in sales and advertisement. He said that he was interested in getting a job, therefore, I gave him all of the documents that he would need to fill the position; the IRS Form w-4; and W-9. I told him if he was truly interested that he could send the forms back to me via e-mail. As I recall after he had obtain enough understanding, it was then he told me that he was a pastor of a new church, then he invited me to attend his Friday, night prayer meeting. I told him that I would be glad to attend. Friday, May 5, 2006 about 12 noon I receive a call from Reverend Dr. Dean Ferry the Associate Dean of HUSD, on my cellular phone, while I was driving my 2000, green Chrysler convertible Sebring. His instruction was, that he had cleared me from HUSD, and that I had fulfilled all of its requirements, therefore he needed me to come to his office before the end of the business day to pick up my pink clearance slip, and to take the document to the main campus of Howard University, to process out of the university, and to pick up my cap and gown. He also told me that my commencement exercise was scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2006.
